My day at the London Gelato Festival

This weekend Covent Garden played host to the London Gelato Festival. And on Saturday I was lucky enough to attend the festival and taste all the gelato flavours.

It was a beautiful sunny day and I had been, since the start of the week, counting down to the festival. Me and Dan are such gelato fans that the idea of tasting 16 samples got us pretty excited.

As I mentioned earlier, festival goers were given the opportunity to taste 16 flavours of gelato from makers located all around the globe. Such flavours included Tiramisu, white chocolate, seven strawberries and even a saffron pistachio gelato.

My winner for the day had to be the Crunchy Nutty ChocoKiss from Roberto Authentic Italian Gelato, based in York. It was a delicious chocolate and hazelnut gelato filled with whole hazelnuts. The taste was great and it was a very generous portion!

My runners up included the Thai Lao. A coconut, mango and satsuma gelato by Gelatology, an Uxbridge based company. What made their gelato was the orange marmalade that covered the scoop, which was then dipped in desiccated coconut. Yum! But there was also Mid Summer Dream (a peppermint gelato sourced from Northern Italy) and Pistachio Paradise ( a pistachio, sea salt and gold flake gelato) which really took my fancy too.

The actual winner for this event was Spring Melody, a refreshing gelato created by Olga from Fridge Cafe. Well done Olga!

As well as tasting gelato you can watch the gelato makers in action at the many master classes throughout the weekend. It’s a fantastic summer event for all the family. So keep your eyes peeled for details on next year’s London Gelato Festival. It’s well worth a visit.

Until next time.
